WATCHING YOUR COMPUTER: HDTV
WHEN: Thursday, December 4
WHERE: Dordt College Center for Science and Technology,
Room S101, 498 4th Ave NE, Sioux Center, Iowa
ACTIVITIES: 5:30 PM Social (in the Board Room)
6:00 PM Dinner (In the Board Room)
7:15 PM Presentation by Douglas De Boer (In room S101)
COST: The cost of the dinner will be about $8. ($4 for student IEEE members)
The presentation in room S101 is free and open to the pubic.
DIRECTIONS: From US Highway 75 turn East onto 4th Street Northeast (This intersection
is one block North of the Mall on Main street, also one block North of a traffic light)
and drive East to 4th Avenue. Turn North (left) onto 4th Avenue and drive a short
half-block. Turn East (right) onto the street just in front of the Dordt College sign and
drive nearly to the end of the pavement. Just before the pavement ends, turn North (left)
into a parking area and park. The Board Room (dinner) is located in the Student Commons
which can be seen over a grassy area straight North of the parking area. Enter the Commons
through the door on the Northeast corner of the Commons. (The obvious front entrance to
the Commons does not connect to the Board Room.) After dinner we will walk to the Center
for Science and Technology (room S101) which is on the East side of the parking area.

WEATHER INFO: In case of bad weather you may call 712-722-6245 to find out if the above
meeting is canceled. Please do not take chances with the weather.
Our speaker's area of interest is communication systems. Last summer he attended the
International Conference on Consumer Electronics where HDTV was a hot topic. He will
report what he found out at this conference relating to HDTV. The presentation will be in
a tutorial style, giving an overview of the ATSC DTV standard for HDTV and digital video
coding.

TOUR OF SENCORE
WHEN: Thursday, January 22, 1998
WHERE: Ramkota Inn and Sencore, Sioux Falls
ACTIVITIES: 5:30 Social, 6:00 Dinner, 7:00 Tour of Sencore, our guide will be Garrett
Carter.
Sencore is a manufacturer of test equipment for the television and computer service
industries. Some of their newest products test and analyze MPEG-2 digital video streams.
Come and enjoy a tour of this company that is keeping up with rapidly evolving
state-of-the-art industry standards.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE WILL ATTEND FINANCE/AUDIT MEETING
WHEN: Thursday, January 22 at 4:00 PM (prior to the meeting at the Ramkota)
WHERE: Missouri Basin Municipal Power Agency (MBMPA), 3005 W. Russell, Sioux Falls.
All executive committee members are required at the audit meeting preceding the dinner and
tour of Sencore announced above. Any other interested member of the Section may also
attend. If there are any questions pertaining to this meeting please contact the Section
