This month two teams of undergraduate engineering students, one from South Dakota State University and one from Dordt College will present the progress they have made to date on their senior design projects. Both teams will receive cash prizes. We are also going to have a little competition by having a panel of judges rank the presentations based on the quality of the presentations an the quality of the technical work involved in the project. This will be a good chance to see what current engineering seniors are up to and to meet the students.
If you are interested in serving on the panel of judges, contact Steve Hietpas (telephone and e-mail addresses given above). We are looking for IEEE Siouxland members working or retired from industry to serve on the panel. The judges will be provided with suggested scoring criteria, and a $5.00 discount on their meal!
Tentative plans for April include the Awards banquet to be held in Bookings with the Eta Kappa Nu Chapter of SDSU. Also in late April the Dordt College Student Branch invites all IEEE members and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to the Dordt College Senior Engineering Project Presentations held in Sioux Center, Iowa in late April.

IEEE WEB SITE FEATURES
VIRTUAL READING ROOM
PISCATAWAY, NJ, 3 March 1999 The IEEE Educational Activities Department announces the release of its Online Education Reading Room at http://www.ieee.org/eab.
Once inside the virtual room, viewers can click on any book in the best-selling IEEE Selected Readings series or Engineers Guides To Business Series, and "flip through" the full text of its pages. Titles up for browsing include Cellular Radio And Personal Communications, Smart Antennas, Recent Developments in Power Electronics, Marketing for Engineers, Working In A Global Environment, Writing For Career Growth, and more!
Logical and user-friendly in its design, the reading room features:
"Having a reading room on the Internet gives visitors the opportunity to browse through books before buying them, just as they would in a traditional bookstore," says Alan Trembly, Business Development Manager for IEEE Educational Activities. "A distribution medium such as this really enhances the IEEEs image as practitioner of the technology of the future."
For more information about the reading room contact Alan Trembly at a.trembly@ieee.org.
IEEE-USA
RESUME REFERRAL SERVICE
WASHINGTON, Feb. 10, 1999 High-tech professionals have a new tool for career advancement: the IEEE-USA Resume Referral Service. And like its popular cousin, the IEEE-USA Job Listing Service <http://www.ieeeusa.org/jobs.html>, the service is free to U.S. IEEE members.
"Over the past few years, weve developed the nations premier job-posting service for technical professionals; it was a natural next step to introduce a top-of-the line resume database for our members," said IEEE-USA Employment Assistance Committee Chair Gary Johnson. "With industry claiming a lack of skilled high-tech workers, we expect the database to become very quickly a hot property for employers seeking access to the IEEEs rich talent pool."
The IEEE-USA Resume Referral Service is administered by Resume-Link, the largest publisher and distributor of resume databases in the world. IEEE members who enroll remain in the database for one year with an option to renew. Every six months, they will be asked to update their information, or, if they choose, to remove their information from the database. The confidentiality option allows members to exclude specific companies from reviewing their information. Companies who are interested in a members resume will contact the member to discuss possible opportunities.
U.S. IEEE members can enroll via the Web at URL http://www.ieeeusa.org/EMPLOYMENT/ resume.html or by hard-copy form. To request a form, or for more information, interested members can contact Resume-Link at (614) 923-0608 or socmember@resume-link.com.
Employers who seek skilled technical professionals should contact Resume-Link's Dave Meagher at (614) 923-0600, ext. 329, or dmeagher@resume-link.com, for access to the IEEE-USA resume database.
CALL FOR SECTION AWARDS NOMINATIONS
Its time to be thinking about nominations for Siouxland Section Awards. Each year three Outstanding Engineer awards are considered: one for a non-student member of the IEEE Siouxland Section, one for a student member from Dordt College, and one for a student member from South Dakota State University. The minimum requirement for an award is membership in good standing in the IEEE. The award criteria are educational and collegiate achievements 5%; IEEE activities 25%; other professional/technical activities 15%; civil and humanitarian activities 15%; continuing competence 15%; engineering achievements 25%; and professional registration 5%. Awards will be presented at the April awards banquet.
For more information, and for requests for nomination forms, call Madeleine Andrawis at (605) 688-4527, or e-mail her: andrawim@mg.sdstate.edu. The nomination deadline is March 29.
CALL FOR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS
In order to serve you best, the Section needs you to make a nomination or two. If you know of a Siouxland IEEE member who could serve in one of the offices listed below, you should make a telephone call and nominate that person. You may nominate yourself if you are interested. Nominations are due by March 29 and may also be made in person at the March 29 meeting in Sioux Falls. We will vote on the nominees at the regular May meeting.
To make a nomination, Call, write, fax, visit, or e-mail:

SPEAKERS SOUGHT FOR S-PACs
WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 1999 The IEEE-USA Student Professional Awareness Committee is recruiting speakers to join the national Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) speakers bureau. According to Committee Chair Julie Gaevert, "We are specifically looking for speakers who can talk to engineering students about the pros, cons and how-tos of starting a business or becoming a consultant. "The committee reimburses the travel expenses of S-PAC speakers.
S-PACs are student-planned and executed conferences on nontechnical, career-related subjects not usually covered in the standard engineering curriculum.
Those interested in sharing their wisdom and experience on entrepreneuship topics should contact IEEE-USAs Ann Hartfiel at a.hartfiel@ieee.org or 202-785-0017, ext. 341.
