The Siouxland Section of the IEEE’s Leadership Development Workshop will be a remarkably valuable seminar for area engineers. The expertise of IEEE leadership will be brought to the seminar by Don Bramlett, P.E., a Senior Member of the IEEE and a leadership facilitator. This successful seminar is conveniently and affordably available here in Siouxland thanks to financial backing from IEEE. All engineers taking on or anticipating new management responsibilities will benefit by attending this workshop. Mix in some fellowship and good food and Saturday, May 17 will be a very worthwhile day.

The content of this workshop was originally developed by Raymond D. Findlay, P.E., Fellow of the IEEE, Past President of the IEEE. Several years ago the Leadership Group of the IEEE Regional Activities Board (RAB) saw the value in more widely disseminating the content of this workshop to IEEE members worldwide. For that purpose, Don Bramlett went to a “train-the-trainers” workshop organized by RAB in Atlanta, Georgia. Now Don brings this valuable workshop to the Siouxland Section.

Don Bramlett is a project engineer in power generation with the Detroit Edison Company, a major subsidiary of DTE Energy. He managed the completion of the scoping, engineering, design and procurement for capital construction projects at 5 of the 9 Detroit Edison fossil fuel fired power plants. Don is a Senior member of IEEE. He has been an IEEE member for 36 years. Since 1983 he has been actively involved as a volunteer and officer with the Southeastern Michigan Section of IEEE. He has been actively involved as an officer with Region 4 of IEEE since 1991 in several roles. He is presently the East Area Chair. He has conducted IEEE Region 4 Section/Chapter Officer workshops and leadership workshops periodically over the last seven years. He is an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) and the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD). He is a leader at the troop and district level with Boy Scouts and on the Board of Deacons at his church. Don holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree and a Master of Business Administration Degree.

The objectives of this leadership development seminar are to introduce participants to a variety of specific leadership styles and ways of behaving which are recognized by others as common characteristics in people who provide leadership. Participants will have opportunities to practice leadership skills via case studies conducted during the workshop. After attending this workshop participants will be aware of areas of leadership development that will be beneficial to their specific personalities and careers.

7:30 - 8:30       Check-in and continental breakfast
8:30 - 8:40       Introduction to the workshop by

Noon - 1:00     Buffet Lunch
1:00 - 3:15       Workshop continues (including one 15 – 20 minute break)

Cost: For early registration: $10.00 member or student member, $50.00 non-member

            Cancellations: No penalty if you cancel before 4 PM, Tuesday, May 13.
                        After that time you will still need to pay even if you cannot attend since
            the Section will be financially obligated. Substitutions are OK.

The registration fee will be collected at check-in. (We will contact you if you cannot attend and do not cancel in time.) Please pay by check or cash. Credit cards cannot be used. IEEE Membership applications will be available at the door. Membership rates will be extended to any who complete the application and turn it in with a check for the full membership fee ($71.50 basic dues for membership through December. Other options you select may increase that amount.)

Registration: Limited to 40 participants, first-come, first-served except members have priority over student members. To reserve your place and qualify for the early registration fee rate, contact the secretary’s office for the Dordt College Engineering Department at 712–722–6293 before 4 PM, Tuesday, May 13. After that time, on a space available basis (which may be less than 40 persons) the $15.00 late fee applies. Reservations may also be made at the door on Saturday, May 17 if space is available.
