During the ExComm meeting on Saturday, a couple of you asked for the attached 2006 Officer list so I just sent it out to all of you.
For those of you who could not attend, I thought we had a good meeting. We got the ball rolling on some meetings for 2006, decided on a workshop topic and date, and got everybody up to speed on several issues such as the annual reporting, concentration banking efforts, member elevation efforts, etc. Russ will probably email us all the minutes when they are put together.
Russ, here are the rest of the minutes, in brief, for agenda sections 3 (c) and on:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. (c) Brian Matherly volunteered to do the IEEE Student Award presentation at SDSU in April. The idea was brought up of discontinuing this event because if the Section starts holding it’s own award meeting, that award could be presented at that meeting.
3. (d) We are not sure if Dordt will have an awards banquet this year so no action was taken on that item.
3. (e) no action on the fall CPSS Banquet, it’s a ways off yet.
3. (f) Jeff VanRoekel will look into getting tours arranged at Hutchinson Technology and at Prairie Wave. There was some discussion of doing a joint meeting with SLUG (Siouxland Linux Users Group) and another with SEARC (Sioux Empire Amateur Radio Club) on the topic of BPL (broadband over powerline). John will find names of BPL presenters that he heard at MIPSYCON (Minnesota Power Systems Conference).
3 (h) Calen mentioned presentations on interviewing skills and getting a home mortgage, and a home recording studio tour as possible GOLD activities. Seth and Calen to collaborate on the interviewing skills event.
3 (i) there was some discussion of the Friends of the IEEE award that is available now but no plans were made to give the award. We will look into this some to see what is all involved.
4. (a) Since it was disclosed at the Region meeting that Associate members who had been Associates for 6 years or more are eligible for elevation to regular Member status, we looked at the member database to see how many Associates we had and how many of them might be eligible for this promotion. Brian will look into whether this would actually cost these members more and if not, contact the eligible ones to see if they mind whether we elevate them. There was also some discussion of the senior member elevation initiative. Steve will send a letter to several of the senior members asking them to nominate and support the elevation of several more members to keep the initiative rolling.
The meeting was adjourned then and those still remaining got a brief tour of the facilities here at MRES.
