IEEE February 2005 Meeting:

Dinner and VeraSun Energy Ethanol Plant Tour

WHEN:     Tuesday evening, February 8^th, 2005

WHERE:    Dinner and Social Time: Pizza Ranch, 1815 6^th St., Brookings, SD (605-692-3663)  (Pizza and Chicken buffet dinner. Student IEEE Members half price).

Tour: VeraSun Energy Ethanol Plant – One VeraSun Place, Aurora,SD

ACTIVITIES:  5:30 - 6:00 PM Social
6:00 - 7:00 PM Dinner
7:15 - 8:30 PM, Tour of VeraSun Energy Ethanol Plant.  VeraSun Aurora produces more than 100 million gallons of ethanol per year (one of the top 5 ethanol producers in the US) and 320,000 tons of dried distiller’s grains per day. We will begin the tour with a discussion of the ethanol production process given by plant manager Kurt Swenson. We will tour the facility and view the following process areas: Grain receiving and storage, corn milling, cook process, fermentation, distillation, water separation and drying, and emissions control.  We will also tour the process control room and laboratory where we will see the central plant control system - a Siemens APACS system which is supported by other auxiliary controls which are primarily Allen Bradley PLC based.  If attendees would like further information on VeraSun, they can visit their website at www.verasun.com .

DIRECTIONS:  Pizza Ranch – From I-29 take 6^th St. Exit 132 approximately 1 mile west.  Pizza Ranch is on north side of 6^th St., west of the intersection with 20^th Ave.
