Aurora produces more than 100 million gallons of ethanol per year (one of
the top 5 ethanol producers in the US) and 320,000 tons of dried
distiller’s grains per day. We will begin the tour with a discussion of
the ethanol production process given by plant manager Kurt Swenson. We
will tour the facility and view the following process areas: Grain
receiving and storage, corn milling, cook process, fermentation,
distillation, water separation and drying, and emissions control.
We will also tour the process control room and laboratory where we
will see the central plant control system - a Siemens APACS system which
is supported by other auxiliary controls which are primarily Allen Bradley
PLC based.
