High Voltage Transmission Lines-Who Needs Them?

Abstract:
     Building of high voltage transmission lines has essentially been non existent for the past 25 years.  This presentation will focus on the future needs for transmission lines in the upper Midwest and the problems encountered in permitting and constructing them.  References will be made to the planning, permitting and constructing of the 220 mile 345kV Arrowhead to Weston transmission line and the CapX 2020 Vision Study, sponsored by eight Minnesota utilities.  The CapX 2020 project was initiated to ensure the backbone transmission system is developed and available to serve the region’s growing demand for electricity.
