Article 04-0001: APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS: The non-elected Executive Committee positions were filled by appointing Michael Ropp as the SDSU Student Branch Liaison, Doug DeBoer as the Dordt College Student Branch Liaison, and John Weber as the Electronic Communications Coordinator for 2004.
Article 04-0002: SECTION DEVELOPMENT. Discussed creation or reactivation of a Power Engineering Chapter. This would provide the section with an additional rebate amount of $200/yr. This will require finding a volunteer to chair and to develop by-laws for the chapter. This person would also need to nominate the next chapter chair. Jeff will look into this during 2004. Also discussed creating an affinity group for GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) members. Brian has agreed to look into the feasibility of this. The possibility of sponsoring a local viewing of the Faraday Lecture during 2005 was discussed. Josh will be asked to pursue this idea.
Article 04-0003: Regular Meeting Plans for 2004. In order to meet the requirement of 5 meetings per year, the following meetings are or will be planned for 2004:
Jan 26, 2004 – Brian Glover of MAPP will be at Dordt and will give a presentation, presumably on the regional reliability coordination activities of his employer.
May or earlier – Jeff is looking into several possibilities for another soft skills workshop for the Spring time frame.
September – CPSS/IEEE annual combined dinner and meeting.
October – Bob will investigate setting up a tour of EROS.
December - Year end Executive Committee meeting to plan following year and meet 2005 officers.
Article 04-0004: Student Branch Grants. Discussed a request from the Student Chapter chairs for the amount of $400 and a subsidy of $10 per person for their planned tour of Omaha businesses. Checks were issued to each chapter for $200 and it was agreed that the per person amount (expected to be another $400) would also be paid at a later date with the stipulation that the rebate only applies for student chapter members.
Article 04-0005: NEWSLETTER: Brief discussion of sending one more newsletter out during 2003. Decided it would be snail mail, maybe postcard size, with points about updating email addresses and pointers to Section web site.
Article 04-0006: Adjournment. Meeting started at 7:00 pm, adjourned at 8:30.
Respectfully Submitted,
Steve Wolterstorff, 12/15/03
